The Power of Community Support:  Innovative Therapy at Beausejour Hospital

The Power of Community Support:  Innovative Therapy at Beausejour Hospital

This holiday season, we’re celebrating the dedicated healthcare professionals who provide life-changing care in our region. We’re proud to be part of a community that supports our healthcare workers as they go above and beyond every day. But to continue providing the highest level of care, they need more than just skills and passion—they need the right resources.

This spring, the rehab team at Beausejour Hospital acquired the Saebo Hand Treatment Kit, a cutting-edge tool for stroke rehabilitation made possible through the generous contributions of community donors.

“This equipment is truly a game-changer,” shares Jordan Beer, an Occupational Therapist overseeing both the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority (IERHA) rehab unit and acute care at Beausejour Hospital. “It enables us to offer the most up-to-date, evidence-based therapy right here in our community.”

Dan Sokoloski, a Physiotherapist at Beausejour Hospital, echoes this enthusiasm: “This equipment allows us to provide therapy that was previously unavailable in the region. It’s a huge step forward for our patients.”

Bringing Expertise and Care Close to Home

For Jordan Beer, working in Beausejour is deeply personal. “I grew up in the Interlake Region, and I always wanted to give back to the community that raised me,” he explains. “When the occupational therapist position in the rehab unit opened up just before I graduated, I didn’t hesitate to apply. Hands-on rehabilitation has always been my passion, and I’m so grateful I made that decision.”

Dan also highlights the benefits of working in a smaller center. “Here, you have the chance to truly connect with your patients and your team. It creates a family-like environment where you know you have support, even during stressful times.”

The addition of the Saebo system is something that Jordan, Dan and the team don’t take for granted – advanced stroke rehabilitation like this is rare to find in smaller communities and it is because of the generosity of community members that patients have therapy that will give them the best chance at a functional recovery.

Every contribution matters. Together, we can ensure that cutting-edge care is always within reach for those who need it most.
